two days to last quarter
september 9, 2001 ~ 6:15 p.m.

Well, I'm at college, finally. It's going pretty well so far, I've met some people and started my classes and I'm starting to get used to having to deal with everything.

The orientation trip was so much fun. We backpacked through the UP in Michigan for five days, stopping to learn primitive skills. Most of it I already knew, but I learned some new plants and how to make a figure four trap, and got to practice with the bow drill. I got to know everyone on the trip really well. And there was another lesbian on the trip, who I'll call K. I could tell when I saw her, but we also talked about it. I basically came out to everyone when we went around talking about our first kiss. And after that me and K talked a whole lot, and we've hung out some since we got back. And tomorrow we're going to a campus GLBT meeting together. Oh gods, she's so cute, but I don't know if she likes me.

I'm still kind of worried about handling all my classes, but since I've been to them they don't seem quite as bad. Art and Biology both look like they'll be a lot of fun, and College Writing looks like it will be pointless but tolerable. In History of Civilization to 1500, so far I think I know more than the teacher (he didn't even know that Homo erectus was the first human to use fire -- I should be teaching the class, not him), but that's really only because we're learning about human origins and the beginnings of agriculture. Pretty soon we'll probably get into less familiar territory, although it will presumably be a lot like my ninth grade Ancient/Medieval history class, which I remember a good deal of since it was something I actually cared about.

So, things are still a bit hectic, but I'm getting used to it. I don't think it'll be so bad.
