three days after last quarter
july 16, 2001 ~ 12:35 a.m.

This past week was really cool. First off, my parents were on vacation in Maine, so me and my older brother were home alone with grocery money and my grandmother's car. Then I worked one day and got off the rest of the week until this coming Tuesday. And then Deviate was down here this week because she's working as a nanny about two minutes from my house, so we spent the whole week together.

We spent several days just hanging out when she was off work, watching movies like The Sex Monster, Plunkett and McCleane, and If These Walls Could Talk 2. We drank and smoked up with my brother and his friends and surfed the web together and collected wineberries in Rock Creek Park and talked a lot. It was fun because the last few years it's been like we see each other every few weeks and usually only for a day or two and then she goes back up to her place, but now that she's working down here we get to see each other more.

Thursday we went swimming and then to Pearl because she needed a portfolio. She didn’t find one, but I found a refillable notebook, which is something I’ve been looking for for years. They sell these really beautiful leather ones at Now and Then in Takoma Park, but I don’t buy leather so I’ve been trying to find one that’s made out of cloth, and I finally did.

Then Friday night she drove me and our friend C up to Deviate's house and we spent the past two days there luxuriating in the absence of her parents, watching The Labyrinth and The Return of Roxy Carmichael, reading old issues of Maxim, and drinking. Today after we got back me and her smoked up in Rock Creek Park with an old friend from high school, then went out to dinner at Vivaldi's, which is my favorite Italian restaurant, then we visited an old teacher of ours who lives nearby.

When we got back from there my parents were home, and I swear the first thing they did was nag me about the dishes. But I can stand it, I really can, because I'll be gone in at the end of August and that's not too long. Even so, it's times like these that I really wish that I could just live in this house and use their money and drive their car and never have to see them, like they're on permanent vacation or something. That would be so wonderful.
