four days after new
march 18, 2002 ~ 10:45 p.m.

This semester is really stressing me out. I shouldn't complain, I suppose, because I had hardly any homework the first half, just a few short papers (and some reading assignments which I of course didn't do). And my midterm grades were great: two A minuses, two B's, and one Satisfactory (for a pass/fail class). That's better than I've done in school for years, maybe since junior high, unless you count my senior year when I gave myself A pluses for all the classes I taught myself, but fuck, that wasn't school, that was just learning.

Anyway, now all of a sudden all these assignments are piling up. There's a ten-page research/reaction paper for Native American History due on April 5 which he only assigned like a week and a half ago, and a group presentation for Conservation Biology which we haven't even started on, and another short paper for American Government. And there's only a month left to do everything, and less for most of it because the last week is finals. But I think I can handle it if I don't procrastinate too much, although that's kind of difficult for me.

And the other thing is my roommate. It's always been kind of awkward between us because we don't communicate (she doesn't speak English too well, and neither of us are very talkative people), but it seems worse now than it did before. And I'm having a lot of insomnia, partly caused by her weird schedule which seems to require that she stay up with the light on until 2 in the morning when I've got class the next day. But she'll be gone during spring semester, so I'll have the room to myself for four weeks. And next year I'm going to try to get a single, because the whole roommate thing just doesn't work for me.

Ani Difranco is playing the 9:30 club April 10, which is exactly ten days before I get home. I'm so pissed, I really wanted to see her play. And I missed Michelle Branch on February 23. But Melissa Ferrick is playing there on April 27, which is my last night at home I believe, so maybe I could go to that, if I feel like spending 15 bucks.

Obligatory movie review: Queen of the Damned. Ok, I have really avoided the whole Anne Rice thing for a while, but one of my friends is a die hard fan, and I just couldn't resist Aaliyah in that silver bra thing (damn is she hot -- well, was hot, I guess). So I saw the movie, and it was really good. Good special effects, great acting, all around great story. So now I'm reading the Vampire Chronicles (I'm halfway through The Vampire Lestat), which is of course better than the movie, but that's to be expected. I know the movie won't ever end up on my list, but it was enjoyable to watch, which is of course the point of movies.

And for all you who have been wondering, my website is currently down, along with my graphics, thanks to envy.nu getting sold and adding banners, and deleting all my files. So I've been searching around for a new host, and I was starting to work on an emote.org site when they announced that they're shutting down. Which really kind of screws over my plans. Now I'm working on getting myself a domain, which I have been thinking about for a while. It'll be a while before it's all worked out, though, because I have to find an affordable registrar and host and work out the payment with my parents since I have no credit card. So it'll probably be up sometime in April at the earliest.
