two days before new

Wow, I have not written in a damn long time.

I had a lot of fun over winter break. I got to hang out with friends, go ice skating (I hadn't been since 9th grade, so that was pretty scary), and hang out downtown in museums and all. Compared to Wisconsin, anything you do in DC is a lot of fun.

I had to spend the required time with relatives, but because of that, I got to see the Pentagon (it wasn't a pile of rubble like I expected, it just looked like a chunk was missing), and I got to go to Philly, which included a trip to South Street (always fun) and to the natural history museum, where I got to see the Lewis and Clark plant collection (not open to the public, but my uncle knows someone), which I thought was really interesting since I love plants.

As scary as this is, I'd never been drunk in my life until I went home for winter break. It's not that I haven't had alcohol before, it's just that I could never stand the taste for more than two beers. So finally, hanging out with my brother and some other people, I had a shot of rum and 2 or 3 beers, and that did it. And since I got back to school, I've managed to get drunk a few more times, and up my tolerance a little. I've still never been puking drunk, but that's not something I aspire to.

And most importantly, I finally got my tattoo, which I'd been waiting to do for months. We went to a place near Dupont Circle and I spent a hour and a half in the chair with a painfully vibrating needle in my arm, but it wasn't all that bad, and definitely worth the 220 bucks. Although I would've prefered to go to a cheaper place, but it was the only one we could find open on new year's day. Amazingly, I managed to make it a whole week (the rest of my stay) without my parents noticing it. It's not like I was afraid of them getting freaked out or anything, but they'd probably lecture me for a while or something, and besides, I can't wait to see the look on their faces months from now when they'll finally notice it, and ask when I got it, and I'll say new year's. Anyway, it's really beautiful, a fairy with black and purple wings, and I'll put up a picture when I get one.

The second semester has started, and while I have thankfully now completed such useless requirements as "College Writing", I'm now taking Algebra 2 (so I can take Stats), which is pretty much exactly like the one I took in eleventh grade. Granted, it was three years ago, but I remember a lot now that I'm doing it again. So the class is kind of obnoxious. Like the other day, the teacher says, "If the solution to a set of linear equations comes out to 7=0, what does that mean?" Silence. Finally, just to get on with the class, I say, "The lines are parallel." I can't believe I was the only damn person in the room who could remember that, since we'd gone over it multiple times in the past few sessions.

I'm also taking Archery, which is so much fun. I've been interested in archery for a while now, and I've tried shooting before, but now I'm actually getting regular practice, and a teacher who can tell me what I'm doing wrong and everything. And I know this sounds odd coming from a vegan, but I want to hunt a deer, so I need to learn how to shoot a bow.
